Returns & Refund Policy

At A Little Love Bookshop, we want you to love every book you buy from us. We also take our obligations under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) seriously. Please read our policy below to understand your rights and how to request a return.

1. Consumer Guarantees (Faulty or Damaged Items)

Under the Australian Consumer Law (and the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act for our NZ customers), our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure .

If a book or item arrives damaged, defective, or is significantly different from the description on our website, please contact us immediately. We will evaluate the issue and work with you to make it right by offering a replacement, store credit, or a full refund to your original payment method.

Return Postage for Faulty Items:
Australian Orders: We will provide a prepaid Australia Post return label to cover the cost of returning the faulty item.

New Zealand Orders: We will arrange return postage or reimburse reasonable return shipping costs on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us before sending the item back.

2. Change of Mind Returns

While the law does not require us to provide a refund or replacement if you simply change your mind , we understand that sometimes a book just isn't the right fit.
We are happy to offer a store credit or exchange for change-of-mind returns, provided you meet the following conditions:

You request the return within 7 days of the delivery date.

The item is in the exact same condition you received it—unread, unused, undamaged, and (where applicable) in its original packaging.

You can provide the receipt or proof of purchase.

For change-of-mind returns, return postage is at the customer’s expense. We recommend using a trackable shipping service, as we cannot guarantee that we will receive your returned item.

3. Final Sale / Non-Returnable Items

Please note that we do not accept change-of-mind returns or exchanges for the following items:

Signed copies (as these are personalised/unique items)
Books from our Preloved Collection
Sale or clearance items
Blind Date with a Book bundles
Gift cards

Note: This exclusion only applies to change-of-mind returns. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law and New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act for faulty or damaged items still apply to all items, including sale, preloved, and signed copies.

4. How to Start a Return

To request a return, please email us at hello@alittlelovebookshop.com.au with the following details:

Your full name
Order number
Title(s) of the book(s) or item(s) you'd like to return
Reason for the return (e.g., damaged in transit, change of mind)
If the item is damaged or faulty, please include clear photos of the issue.

As a small business, we aim to respond to all return requests within 3–5 business days.

Important: Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

5. The Return Process & Condition of Items

If your return is approved, we will guide you through the next steps, including providing the return address or a prepaid label (for faulty items).

Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will notify you of the approval status.

For faulty/damaged items: If approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method within 10 business days, or a replacement will be sent.

For change of mind: If approved, we will issue your store credit or arrange your exchange.

Condition on Return: For change-of-mind returns, items must arrive back to us in their original, sellable condition. We reserve the right to refuse a return or reduce the store credit amount if the item is returned damaged or in a condition different from when it was sent.

Please note that banking and credit card processing times may vary, and it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund.
